Keywords are like a fisherman’s hook: you cast them out into the river, hook the visitors and reel them in.
Google and the other Search Engines rely on keywords to understand what your website is about. So when a person types a word or phrase into their browser’s search bar, Google serves up approved pages in the results which include those terms.
Keywords have been used since the very first search. However Google’s algorithms have become much more sophisticated in recent years with the advent of AI, which has resulted in the old ‘blackhat’ methods being penalised and their ‘spiders’ working more like humans.
The rule now is to write content that delivers exactly what people are looking for: meaningful, relevant, useful and readable. The old adage of ‘content is king’ is more important than ever before.
Without a strategy you will struggle to find a consistent theme to run through your content, with the result that you will try to be all things to all people, rather than have a clear message. Your website will become a ramble.
Without a plan you will soon find yourself running out of time, interest and support. Your supply of new content will dry up with your energy.
You’ll soon find you are no longer casting out those hooks!
