The economic upturn – are we all benefitting?

Jul 18, 2014 by Mark Baines Category: Marketing

Great news for some: we’ll soon be the world’s fifth largest economy. Bad news for others: you won’t benefit if you’re still stuck in the ‘old’ economy.

How many people do you know who are benefitting? Are you?

Well, the fruits of the economic growth are there for the plucking, but you’ll only get them if you are either very lucky in your present job, or you retrain, or change jobs.

Let’s face it, most people are still doing much the same as has always been done, and as a result they probably won’t see their income grow much.

Most companies I come across employ the same skills, doing the same jobs, as always. They’ll be lucky if they see much growth, except on the backs of others.

For individuals, traditional skills are less valued now, while new skills are voraciously fought over. So in the marketing business, we all want data analysts, PPC specialists etc, for which we’re prepared to pay much more than for their equivalents from 10 years ago, as they’re in short supply.

Me? Well I’ve personally taken the training route too, so I’ve just sat the IDM Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing.

Better look out for my name on the Rich List soon…
