So we do digital marketing secure in the knowledge that we are responding to customers by using their medium of choice?

Wrong!

Half the world’s population have never used the internet on a PC. They’ve only used smartphones, where the app reigns supreme.

And this is growing. People these days haven’t got time for laptops and desktops, except when they’re at work. They use the phone. And a lot of people always have.

Market penetration of smartphones in the Middle East is 150%! No, that’s not a typo. The average is more than one smartphone – each!

There are 800m phone connections in India alone, of which over 200m are smartphones – and this share is rising in double figures annually. Compare that to a paltry 36m smartphones in the UK.

Where do they go for info on where to eat? Not google, like you and me, but to an app like Zomato.

Where do they go for travel info for their next breakaway? Not google, but to the TripAdvisor app, or its equivalent.

And now that Microsoft have taken over Nokia, this trend is going to multiply.

No wonder google are worried. New technology is stealing their market!
